I think that's not a correct comparison. Don't let those sounds fool you. The Projection is a little thicker than regular. That's why it has more overtones (at least that was what I heard). I mistakenly bought 16" Projection years ago. Then I thought I couldn't find the real A Custom Crash sound. Soon, I replaced it with regular A Custom 16" crash and, yesss! Thinner and less overtones, more musical cymbal.... but, today I have no any Zildjian. All Sabian HHXes.

Comes down to preference. Many pros use one or the other. I have both and prefer the mastersounds, but i have a z custom mastersound bottom and an a mastersound top. The new beats are nice, but they're too washy and high end for my taste.

16" are not crash but splashes. Crashes beginn with 18" ;-)

If you like more of a flat sound, go with New Beat. If you like more of a colored sound, go with Mastersound. I prefer New Beat myself.

Zildjian sounds like hi-hat. Sabian sounds like the dishwasher

Got them both, they suit each other really well with an 18" A medium in the middle

I hit my crashes at a 45 degree angle on the edge for a warmer, slower attack that is less clangy. Don't know why UA-camrs don't do this.

They both sound horrible. Oranges to apple's Sabian Sizzle Hats ....nothing better !

better 14 vs 14…

I've got a set of 13" quick beats and have debated on getting a K top hat to mix it up or a set of K hats or New Beats. Thanks for the comparison!

I prefer the New Beats. The K/Z's aren't bad, but I don't feel they have the same chunky depth the NB's have. It's just a versatile combo that will always be a classic and fit with whatever you are doing.

How about actually playing them like they were ride cymbals, instead of crash cymbals.

I play Signatures, but I like all the cymbals in this video. There are no bad cymbals here.

I have 2 crashes (A custom) 17" and 18"... Works great in any genre and of course in the studio.

Signature FTW! I don't like small 2002 crashes. 18" and 19" 2002s are very good though.

New beats are THE perfect all rounder. Not a single musical situation they don’t sound great in

I'm a jazz drummer and the MASTERSOUND hi hats sound like an old pair of cheap Paiste's that I had several years ago. Not musical at all.

Projection crashes supposed to be heavier. Does this makes them clangier. Or they still respond quick??

I always want to hear the A sound out of a K set and the K sound out of an A set....but Mother always did say I was a strange young man.

Well seems to me the K arrangement is best closed. The A set sounds best (to me) open.
